Autumn Cocooning

"Close both eyes to see with the other eye."

-Rumi

The busy days of summer have come to a close. No more lazy days in the pool, impromptu late-night parties, and endless sleepovers with the neighborhood kids. We're officially back to bedtimes, packed lunches, homework, and every activity under the sun. It seems like just when we get into the rhythm of summer and settle into the more relaxed schedule, it ends. We're expected to start the school year at a breakneck speed...but really we feel like we need to finally take a nap.

It's officially autumn - a time for harvest, winter preparation, and replenishing stillness. With the holiday season rapidly approaching and plenty of parties and family gatherings on the horizon, now is the time to take a mini-break for some autumn cocooning. Not a complete withdraw for self-reflection...just spending some extra time alone in our favorite rituals of comfort.

  • Wrap up in a blanket and read a book in the garden

  • Take a nap in the middle of the afternoon

  • Light your favorite candle and breathe in the scent

  • Journal about your favorite thing you did over the past year

  • Find some unfamiliar music and have a listening party

  • Invite over a couple good friends for coffee and deep discussion

  • Make a Pinterest board for your favorite aesthetic

  • Try a yoga video on YouTube

  • Read The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery

  • Watch Ratatouille with the whole family

  • Spend the morning in your favorite fluffy robe

  • Pick up some vegetables at the farmer's market and learn to make a new recipe

The end of the year is coming soon and we have decided to look at it as the end of one chapter, only to immediately start a new one, rife with magical possibilities. If we didn't finish what we wanted to this year, so what? If we've learned one thing this year, it's this:

Whatever is supposed to happen will happen; if it doesn't happen, it wasn't our path to walk.

Taking this time to recharge ourselves will only help to replenish the stillness within. Allow this to be the season of renewal instead of a season of frenzy. Settle into the fall and allow its magic to wrap you in quiet possibility.
