"Similar to a butterfly, I've gone through a metamorphosis, been released from my dark cocoon, embraced my wings, and soared!"
-Dana Arcuri
Just when the winter begins to feel like too much, we start to see the first signs of spring. New green growth is beginning to pop through the many shades of brown. The birds are out, singing, and we see pollinators out en masse. The last few months have been all about going inside: going internal, taking a breath, and hibernating in our own space of darkness. We've gone through shadow work and starting peeling away the layers, getting us closer to our centers.
As the end of winter nears, the Earth pulls us all to stir and move - emerging from our seasonal chrysalis. This is the time to make fresh starts, set new intentions, and embrace new opportunities. That doesn't mean we have to say yes to every opportunity - the ones that are meant for us will make themselves known. But to make that happen, we have some preparation to do.
Cleansing and purification are an important part of this process. The new things won't make themselves known if we haven't already made room for them. There are myriad reasons for spring cleaning and making space is one of them - both in our physical world and in our bodies. There is a fantastic feeling that happens after a big cleaning throughout the house - accomplishment of a big project, yes...but also a larger capacity to breathe. Physically, yes, but most importantly, energetically.
Cleaning the house is pretty straightforward; however, what are some ways we can move and release stagnant energy in the body? It may surprise you how many of these you already do.
Physical exercise is a great way to get energy moving. Dancing is especially good as it has movements in all directions. In our daily lives we tend to move in straight lines. Dancing includes elliptical movements that keep the energy flowing. Stomping feet grounds that energy while allowing us to feel the vibrations moving all the way up our bodies.
Breathwork and meditation help everything in our lives. If you are new to breathwork, try out some basic box breathing to start. Even just a couple minutes of breathwork can change our whole day for the better.
Get creative! Take time out regularly to pursue creative interests, whether it's painting, knitting, sculpting, cooking, or even coloring in a coloring book. This is especially effective at kickstarting stale energy.
Use sound to remove blocks, rebalance energy flow, and strengthen energy. Drumming and crystal singing bowls are life-changing in a live setting, but recordings are almost as good. If you can find somewhere to attend a live sound bath near you, do it! The crystal singing bowls fill the room with sound to the point where your brain all but shuts off for the duration of the session. If you happen to be in the Austin area, The Singing Bowl Lady (Sandee) is amazing - but you can find sound baths all over.
All of these work wonders, but you may find that one feels the best for you. It's entirely likely that each one will work better for a different situation. For example, you may notice that when you have low energy and a low mood, dancing works the best - especially when stomping your feet. Do some energetic spring cleaning and get ready for all of the amazing changes soon to come!
The signs of spring are still in their infancy at the beginning of March, but keep looking for them - they're beginning to show themselves if we're willing to see.
